Sometime back, I was invited by Preetam Rai to attend the launch of Ogywawa, an interesting web service integrating with the mobile phone for users to buy drinks for friends. If this is not interesting, Sunil Coushik, the co-founder of Ogywawa, started the company BubbleMotion (funded by Sequoia Capital and based in Singapore). For your support and encouragement, the founders and the resident contributors thank all of you for a wonderful year of 2008. We have passed a very turbulent year and are about to brace in the midst of a difficult time. According to an experienced investor I know, this may be the worst financial crisis we see in our lifetime and yet there is hope. The greatest wealth are often created in the times of great difficult times. In bad times, we should conjure a famous quote by Winston Churchill during World War II in the darkest moment, “Never, never, never give up!”. We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope that the coming year will bring good fortune and health to all. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The Singapore PHP User Group will have a meetup on 18 Dec 2008 (Thursday) from 7:30pm – 10:00pm in Microsoft Singapore (Address: 22 Floor, One Marina Boulevard, NTUC Centre). If you are interested in turning up for the event, please RSVP to their event invite via Facebook. Read more

In response, the Meltwater Group recently sponsored a global scholarship contest for students who submitted video-recorded business pitches online. The company is pleased to announce that Shangyan Liu, a final year Science student at NUS and alumni of the NUS Overseas College programme, received an all-expense paid trip to Amsterdam as one of eight international finalists selected to compete in the competition, which took place in Amsterdam on November 21, 2008.

InteresThink is a series of multi-disciplinary conferences that aim to bring people and ideas from different disciplines and industries together. They believe that to solve today’s increasingly complex problems, radical collaboration and innovation is needed. As there is no existing exploratory platform in Singapore that fulfils this need, hence InteresThink was conceived in 2007 to seed such meaningful conversations. InteresThink 3, will be held on 12 December 2008 at the The Pod at the National Library. The theme for this edition is “Causes and Ideas” and it aims to highlight and explore important causes and cutting edge ideas. You can register via Facebook or thru their wiki here.
